The diagonal roof design and south-facing orientation of the PV array maximise solar yield, supporting the building’s energy efficiency strategy and reducing reliance on grid electricity. The installation plays a key role in meeting stringent environmental performance targets while integrating seamlessly with the building’s architectural intent.

About the Project

Located in the heart of Kings Cross, London, this distinctive commercial building was architecturally designed with tunnels integrated into its pitched roofline, echoing the Network Rail tunnels below. The diagonal form of the building was driven by the need to improve solar orientation for heat gain while complementing the surrounding urban architecture, delivering a total roof area of approximately 36,000 sq ft.

A photovoltaic (PV) system was incorporated into the design to support the building’s
sustainability goals and contribute towards achieving a BREEAM Outstanding rating.

Client Testimonial

“Ablaze recently completed an installation at Kings Cross in Q1, consisting of 102 PV
panels located on a ridged metallic roof. Their pre-construction information was
issued promptly, and any queries raised by the client were answered straight away.
The install team was polite, helpful, and very knowledgeable. All in all, a good
installation was delivered by the Ablaze team.”
