Solar PV panels on the sedum roof at Waltham Forest Civic Centre, London

About the Project

The Waltham Forest Civic Centre project involved the installation of a 59 kWp solar PV system at the Civic Centre on Forest Road, London.

The system was commissioned on 27 March 2026 and includes 130 Trina Vertex S+ 455W solar panels, installed on a green/biodiverse roof.

The solar PV system is expected to generate approximately 48,680 kWh of electricity each year. This will help the Civic Centre generate more of its own electricity on site and reduce its reliance on electricity from the grid.

The installation is also expected to save approximately 25.2 tonnes of CO₂ each year, helping to reduce the building’s carbon footprint and support its wider sustainability objectives.

The project makes effective use of the available roof space while incorporating renewable energy alongside the existing green and biodiverse roof. This provides a practical approach to generating clean electricity while supporting the building’s wider environmental and sustainability objectives.

Sector

The Waltham Forest Civic Centre is an important public building serving the local community.

Solar PV is well suited to public-sector buildings where there is regular daytime electricity use. By generating renewable electricity on site, the Civic Centre can reduce its reliance on grid electricity while helping to lower its carbon emissions.

The project demonstrates how renewable energy can be incorporated into existing public buildings while working alongside green and biodiverse roof spaces. It provides a practical example of how solar generation can form part of a wider approach to improving the sustainability of public buildings.

Generation and CO₂ savings figures are estimates and will vary depending on operational and environmental conditions.
